New Satellite City to come up in Madurai New township on Madurai Tirunelveli Highway


Tamilnadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha had announced that a new satellite city will come up in Madurai. The satellite township at a cost of Rs 120 crore will come up at the outskirts of Madurai. It is also proposed that new houses of around 4,454 will come up in several other districts. This information was announced by the Chief Minster in the Assembly today. The township will be 15 kms away from Madurai. The township will be near airport on the Madurai - Tirunelveli highway.

Important highlights of the proposed Madurai Satellite City Township


  • 586.86 acres of land owned by the Tamilnadu Housing Board in The Thoppur-Uchappatti will be used up for creating the Madurai Satellite City township.
  • The satellite township is located on the Madurai - Tirunelveli highway ie, 15 kms from Madurai.
  • 19,500 plots at a cost of Rs 120 core will come up in the Madurai satellite city.
  • Of the 19,500 plots, 14,300 plots will be allotted to low income group, 2500 plots allotted to middle income group, 750 plots allotted for higher income groups and 1950 plots allotted for economically weaker sections. 
  • The township will have basic amenities like drinking water, roads, drainage system, street light, rain water harvesting and parks.
  • Schools, commercial complexes, police station, post office, primary health centre, fire station will be part of the satellite township.
