Eligibility criteria to get a new ration card in chennai

. The applicant must be a Indian citizen

. The applicant should be living and cooking separately

. The applicant should be a resident of Tamilnadu

. The applicant or his family should not possess any ration card in any state in India.

. The applicant or his family members should not have their names in any family card in Tamilnadu

. The applicant and his family should be close relatives.

How to apply for a new ration card in Chennai

. Application forms can be downloaded online from the official webiste

. Application forms in English and Application forms in Tamil are available in the prescribed format.

. Take a print-out of the application form and fill them as per the instructions given in the application forms.

Where to send the filled in application forms for new ration card in Chennai

. For residents in Chennai:  The filled in application forms should be filed with Assistant commissioner of Civil Supplies in the zone where you live in.

. For residents other than Chennai: The filled in application forms should be filed with Taluk supply officers of the civil Supplies and consumer Protection Department or Assistant Rationing Officers in the area where you live in.

. Remember to obtain an acknowledgement slip after submitting the application forms to the concerned authorities.

. Filled applications can also be sent through post. It is good to send it through Registered Post with Acknowledgement Due (RPAD) as you will get a proof for submission of the application form.

Documents to be attached along with the filled application form for new ration card in Chennai

. Proof of Residence: Photo copy of  any one of the following mentioned below
  • Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC)
  • Property tax payment receipt in case of own house (current year)
  • Electricity Bill (last month)
  • Telephone Bill (last month)
  • Front Page of Bank Pass Book
  • Allotment orders in respect of persons residing at houses allotted by Slum Clearance Board
  • Passport
  • Currently valid tenancy agreement (in case of rented house)
. Surrender certificate from an issuing authority if any card is issued in previous address

. Name deletion certificate from the parent or guardian

. No card certificate from an issuing authority if there is no family car in previous address

. Details of LPG connection if any along with the consumer name, consumer number and oil company name.

. Mobile number and Email address should be mentioned to get the status of your application.

. A self addressed post cover or post card for any communication from the returning officer.

Procedure to process ration card in Chennai

. The application is verified by an field officer. He will be inspecting your house to check if the applicant is living and cooking separately.

. The inspection will be carried out within 30 days on receipt of the application form
.
. If the applicant satisfies the eligibility condition he is approved for the family card.

Procedure to get status of ration card application in Chennai

. Applicants has to wait for 30 days after submitting the application forms for inspection.

. It would take a minimum of 60 days to get any replay back from the department from the time of filing the application form.

. If the applicant is eligible the family card will be sent for printing and the printed card arrives to Assistant Commissioner or Taluk Supply Officer.He will be sending a post card to the applicant to receive the ration card along with the acknowledgement slip within 15 days.

. If the application is rejected the applicant will receive the post card from  Assistant Commissioner or Taluk Supply Officer with the reason for rejection within 60 days from the application submission date.

. Rs. 5/- has to be paid to the AC or TSO to get the new ration card.
